Ashton Prove too Strong for the Thirds
Sunday, 11 June 2017

Last Sunday, Middleton's 3rd XI travelled to the Reynor Lane ground on Sunday to take on Ashton's 3rd XI. It was a very much under strength 3rd XI, mainly due to the U19’s playing in a Natwest T20 competition, one player representing Lancashire’s Disabled XI and a bout of illness striking a couple of players. With so many players unavailable it was a chance for 3 U15 players to make their senior debuts and gain some experience at a higher level.

Burton Cup rearranged to this Saturday
Wednesday, 07 June 2017
Due to a fixture clash the Burton Cup Second round match at home to Walsden has been rearranged to this Saturday (the 10th June) with Sunday being the reserve date
Monday, 05 June 2017

Young Tommy Rutter, Middleton born and bred gave a man of the match performance for the Moonrakers in their top of the table clash against Moorside. With three wickets and a sixty run partnership with teenager Rhys Tierney, Tommy proved he has all the credentials to become a great all rounder. The victory capped a great week for Middleton, with the three wins keeping up their unbeaten start to the season. On bank holiday Monday a fine three wickets for Tierney enabled a one run win against Shaw whilst Friday evening a magnificent 67 from the hard hitting Grant Jones sealed an emphatic win versus Werneth. Both these wins were in the T20 competition.

Middleton's first match in the T20 saw them at home to Shaw in front of a reasonable crowd at Towncroft on the Bank Holiday Monday. Shaw arrived with an experienced team including the Mahmood's , Chiapp and Jones and were no doubt scratching their heads from their bizarre game v Rochdale on the Saturday. Several of the bowlers that day couldn't find a length and at the end of the game there was a general consensus that the pitch was 2 yards short at only 20 yards.

It was a glorious afternoon as I arrived high on the hills at a picturesque Moorside Cricket and Bowling Club, with the car temperature showing a balmy 24 degrees. This temperature was to drop considerably as the afternoon progressed and a cold front swept in. Moorside Captain Rick Harrington had won the toss and put Middleton in as the umpires led both teams out to observe a minutes silence in respect of the Manchester Arena bombing victims.
Eaves Leads the Way
Sunday, 28 May 2017
A stellar performance from Aaron Eaves led the 3rd XI to victory.
