Ground Chairman's report PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 11 January 2016

We have had a rather eventful year on the ground' Around January time Rob Bennet(groundsman) .informed us that he had been offered the position of head groundsman at Rochdale AFC He obviously saw this as a big step up and said he was taking up the offer.

We were obviously taken aback by this and started making enquiries for a replacement we had one or two offers from people who thought because they could use a lawnmower that they were qualified In the meantime  John Foden a long time member , had put his name forward. Our first reaction was that it was not serious as he had no experience However he was finally given an interview and convinced us that he definitely serious It was agreed that we give him a 3 Month trial After a two day course with Ian Brewster he took over the groundsman,s duties It was obvious from the start that he was full of ideas bout how we could improve the total ground experience  the only problem was finding the cash todo them One obvious thing underway is the refurbishment of the forms Besides carrying out the work John has talked members into sponsoring all the forms so there is no cost to the club He is at present involved with the help of various I club members in  the removal of the dry rot in the dressing room Whilst it will still cost a lot of money, it will be a lot less than if we had source outside, and we can be assured that it will be well done as John is very proud of his workmanship. His efforts with the ground have been highly commended by all visiting teams. All over the season he has been able to consult with Ian Brewster and to a lesser extent with Rob to such a level that other clubs are asking his advice. All in all we can be so. pleased that we gave him the chance and we have gained not only an excellent groundsman ,but a first class tradesman he wii tackle virtually any job that crops up, of which there are many.                              Jack Gillibrand (Ground Chairman)
