IT'S A HAT-TRICK AS MIDDLETON COP FOR ANOTHER CUP!

By STEVE BOTT and ROD HIGHTON

MIDDLETON Cricket Club's title of Cup Kings took on more significance this afternoon as the Second XI captured the Burton Cup beating Heywood by five wickets on their own patch.

Skipper Ricky Valentine (pictured left) led his men to victory as they added their own piece of silverware to the first team's double of Wood Cup and 20/20 Cup to make it a real season to remember.

They had Heywood at 75 for six with 13 overs left in the first innings at The Crimble.

The Heywood score moved on to 91 for the loss of one more wicket with eight overs remaining.

And they added just 16 more runs before Middleton mopped up the last three wickets to leave Heywood on 107 all out.

If anybody thought it was going to be easy then Heywood made them sit up and take notice as Middleton were reduced to 35 for three after the first ten overs and lost one more wicket with the addition of just 15 more runs after 19 overs.

After six more overs Middleton had added 14 more runs without further loss and it was very much game on at 64 for four needing 44 to win.

With 20 overs left Middleton were 78 for five and victory was back in their sights. They closed in on their target and needed just 10 runs off the last 16 overs with five wickets standing. Go on boys!

They managed it with two overs to spare and Danny Core finished on 43 not out.

It is going to be some party next Saturday at Towncroft!
