Second Eleven Through to the Semi Finals
Tuesday, 13 June 2017

On Saturday, a bowl out was needed a secure the Second Eleven's passage into the semi final of the Burton Cup

The game against Walsden, rearranged from the 24th June due to a fixture clash, started shortly after 14:30 for a 35 overs match. It was a great credit to the groundsman, John Foden, that the game even started after torrential downpours during the night.

Batting first, Middleton found themselves under the cosh after some early aggressive and accurate bowling from Walsden.

When the rain came, Middleton were 111 for 4 with 8 overs left of their innings. With Mo Shahid unbeaten on 53 being the stand out performance on what was a difficult track to bat on.

An early tea was called and the rain kept falling. The game was abandoned at 6pm and it was decided a bowl out was to be used to decide the tie.

The first four Middleton bowlers hit as they took a 4-2 lead. After a few misses on both sides, it was Matt Lee who made the decisive hit to win the tie for the Moonrakers.

The draw for the next round of the cup will be made shortly after the remaining matches are play on the weekend of the 24th June.
