Middleton Are Champions
Wednesday, 13 September 2017

With both games being washed out over the weekend, this gave Middleton the necessary points required to be crowned Champions of the Pennine Cricket Championship Division.

A fantastic achievement for skipper George Walker and his young team for whom the average age is 21.

Not only young and enthusiastic but the first team squad are virtually all local lads apart from the Professional who originates from Bury.  Skipper Walker is from Boarshaw, the Jones’s from Hollin and Alkrington, whilst Pritchard from Middleton Junction. All products of the excellent Middleton youth system.

Middleton Win Top Two Battle
Wednesday, 06 September 2017

Last Saturday saw the Championship top two, Middleton and Royton clash at Towncroft in what would be a critical match in determining the eventual league champions.

The reverse fixture at Royton earlier this year had been washed out , however Royton had prevailed in the quarter final of the Wood Cup and arrived with the same team minus Ryan Caruthers who had left to take up a paid position at Barrow CC.

Middleton Welcome Legend
Wednesday, 09 August 2017

It was 12.15pm at Towncroft on Saturday when a solitary figure emerged from the car park carrying his kit bag and making his way to the changing rooms at Middleton. He was first there first,  changed and out into the pitch for his traditional warm ups, having completed several hours practice in the week.

This keen Uppermill second teamer wasn't some up and coming youngster trying to prove himself in the game, but 83 year old Jamaican legend Cec Wright. From the same era as Sir Garfield Sobers and Wes Hall and later playing with Viv Richards and Joel Garner, Cec would be looking to improve on his 7,000 wickets already taken in his career. What an honour for some of the Middleton second eleven youngsters to be even on the same pitch as Cec and what an example he sets.
