Weekend Round Up
Monday, 25 August 2014

There were mixed fortunes for all three sides this weekend.

On Saturday, the 1st XI were heavily defeated by 6 wickets at Crompton, being dismissed for just 84 runs. Sunday didn't fair much better either with visitors Unsworth defeating the Moonrakers by 9 wickets at Towncroft after dismissing the home side for just 131 runs - the only highlight being a stubborn 49 from veteran Steve Davey.

Despite the 1st XI's woes, the 2nd XI continued their march towards promotion with decisive victories over second placed Crompton on Saturday and third placed Royton on Sunday.  On Saturday, the visitors were held to 191-9 from their 50 overs and in reply the Moonrakers knocked it off with the loss of 7 wickets - mainly thanks to a fine all round performance by Tom Rutter who hit 40 not out to go with his 3 wickets.  On Sunday at Royton, Middleton posted 168-8 from their 50 overs and dismissed the home side for 102 - stretching their lead at the top of the Second Division to 11 points.

The 3rd XI lost their 20/20 match at home to Heywood on Friday evening, as well as their League match at Newton Heath on Sunday.

There is only 1 day of fixtures this weekend - on Sunday there is a reversal of fixtures with the 2nd XI hosting Royton at Towncroft and the 1st XI away at Unsworth.  Both games begin at 12:45.

Second Eleven Round Up
Monday, 18 August 2014

The Second Eleven stretched their unbeaten run to 12 games with two convincing victories at the weekend.

On Saturday, they welcomed Ashton to Towncroft. The visitors batted first and posted a total of 106, with Middleton claiming the last wicket with the final ball of the innings. Steve Holmes being the main destroyer with five wickets for the cost of 19 runs.

Batting second, Middleton reached the total with few difficulties, losing four wickets in the process. Pete Foden top scoring with a quick-fire 37.

Sunday brought about the trip to Monton and Weaste. The Salford side were invited to set a target, and were all out for 129 with Holmes claiming four scalps.

In reply, Middleton once again looked a consummate ease in reaching the target with 23 overs left. Pete Foden top scoring with 45.

Damian D'Oliveira 1960 - 2014
Wednesday, 02 July 2014

It was with great sadness that the club learnt yesterday Sunday of the sad death of Damian D’Oliveira following a two-and-half year battle with cancer, Damian was the son of the late Basil D’Oliveira our professional 1960-1964.

Many of our older members will remember Damian as a baby being pushed in his pram around the ground by his mother Naomi and later playing on the outfield with his bat & ball.

The D’Oliveira family left Middleton at the end of the 1964 season moving to Worcester where Basil had a successful career with Worcester & England.

Damian followed suit playing successfully for the county club between 1982 & 1995 scoring over 9,000 first class run, he then becoming Academy Director a position he held until his death.

The thoughts of the Middleton Committee and the club members at this sad time are with Damian’s wife Tracy and three sons Marcus, Dominic and Brett, his mother Naomi and his brother Shaun his wife Julie and son Rayan.
