Under 19s Blast Lowerhouse away in T20 bash PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 13 June 2017

With no game for the first eleven and the second team rained off, the only game to survive the weather was Middleton Under 19's. Taking the journey up the M66 to Burnley this would be a familiar route for Middleton teams from next year when they enter the Lancashire League for the first time. The opponents on Friday evening were Lowerhouse in a T20 fixture consisting of 20 overs.

Lowerhouse are a well run outfit with an excellent ground and would give Middleton a taster of what to expect in their  new surroundings from 2018 onwards. With Lowerhouse containing some experienced players they were looking to build a big total as they went out to bat.

Opening the bowling for Middleton was James Tierney and Tom Rutter, the latter being a first team regular at Middleton. However it was to be the younger of the Tierney brothers who was to prove the pick of the bowlers as he ripped apart the Lowerhouse early order taking a magnificent 5 wickets for 14 runs. This included a smart caught and bowled. James has already tasted first team action and acquitted himself very well, especially considering he is only sixteen years of age. He's a medium to quick bowler and well built with plenty of potential for further development. With continued coaching from the excellent Middleton coaches he could become quite a bowler.

Tierney was well backed up in thebowling department with Rutter, Addison Holland and Jack Nolan all picking up wickets. There was also a couple of excellent run outs completed by Hussain Shahid and Rhys Tierney leaving Lowerhouse finishing on 75 all out.  Special mention to Jackson, Kilroy and Ahedin who all looked sharp in the field plus Leighton Le Carpentier who completed a smart stumping and a good catch.

Opening the batting for Middleton were Leighton Le Carpentier and Tom Rutter. Both departed cheaply leaving the Tierney brothers to build a partnership. However, just when they were getting in , they departed for 13 and 14.  With the target looking in reach it was left to Addison Holland and Aaron Eaves to hit the winning runs with Aaron stroking a couple of smart fours in his total of 14. This was an excellent victory for the Middleton lads against a very good and competent Lowerhouse team. This augurs well for the Middleton future with such promising youngsters coming through.

This weekend sees the second team at home to Moorside and Micklehurst starting at 1:30pm at Towncroft whilst the firsts are on their travels to Hollinwood and Friarmere.
