Middleton CC Poll
Who will be Middleton's top run scorer in the 2017 season

Heyside too Good for Middleton's Batters PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 25 August 2015
Abject performances with the bat lead to defeat for the 1st XI against Heyside at Towncroft on Saturday. Despite a solid bowling performance in the first innings, Middleton’s batting order were unable to chase down 181.
There were some good bowling performance from the Moonrakers. Ernest Kemm bowled all twenty five overs from the Hollin Lane end and finished with 3 wickets including the one of sub professional Nasir Jamshed. Michael Pritchard also assisted Kemm well at the Towncroft end and on his return to the 1st XI; Joel Harris claimed three wickets to help reduce the visitors to 181/8 off their 50 overs.
At tea this seemed an achievable total to chase down despite the wet weather contributing to the wicket being slow and sticky. However, Cashin’s left arm orthodox spin proved to be too good for the Middleton top order as he removed them for 19 runs.
Mo Shahid provided the fight back which was desperately needed in the middle order, although his innings came to an end on 58 just as it was looking as though the Moonrakers could pull off another shock victory. With victory out of reach the final wicket pair of Pritchard and Stanley ensured a consolation batting point as they passed the 75% score of 136 before Newton took the final wicket of Stanley and ensured a 42 run victory for his team.
- Sunday’s game at the Racecourse against Radcliffe was abandoned after twenty overs. Middleton were batting although the heavy rain denied any chance of play resuming as both teams shared the points.
