The 1st XI returned to the league with defeat away to Crompton on Saturday. Josh Tolley showed his class through guiding his team home with an unbeaten 95 as Middleton slipped to their forth defeat in the 2015 Lake Garage Central Lancashire League.

Having not played a league game for three consecutive weekends the 1st XI was humbled by the hosts Crompton. The Moonrakers began their batting innings first and it was clear early in the game that an excellent wicket had been prepared once again. Unfortunately the two openers were removed quickly, and at 20 for 2 Peter Foden joined professional Ernest Kemm at the crease. The pair batted well and began to consolidate, only for Foden to fall lbw for 21.

After the third wicket there were few significant contributions from the Middleton batting order. Second team captain Rob Bennett worked his way to 14 when he was caught out from a leading edge and soon after Kemm’s innings came to an end as he passed the half century mark on 55 getting caught behind. Middleton finished their innings on 150 for 8.

Middleton’s bowling innings were dominated by the quality shown by Crompton’s professional Josh Tolley. He grafted to take the game away from the Moonrakers and despite losing his opening partner in the early overs, Tolley played a faultless innings that ensured an 8 wicket victory for his team.

Hopefully the firsts can get back to winning ways this weekend as the play their final T20 group game on Friday against Milnrow at Towncroft. And on Saturday they travel to The Racecourse to play Radcliffe.
