Twenty20- Middleton vs Heyside PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 26 May 2015

In the second T20 of the season the 1st XI were comprehensively defeated by Heyside.  There was little for the Moonrakers to cherish in this game with Heyside posting a solid target of 165 for 8 and in return Middleton were only able to amass 107 off their twenty overs.

It was a much improved performance from the visitors who had come to towncroft at the start of the month and lost. Professional van Schelkwyk began Heyside’s innings with aggression which got the visitors off to a good start. After van Schelkwyk had departed it was then Ryan Barnes who began to pile on the runs finishing on 46 helped by Mark Barnes who got 36.

Zain Tahir was the pick of the Middleton bowlers and deservedly picked up three wickets including the professional who was excellently caught out at deep mid-wicket by Rhys Tierney.

It was clear at the end of the first innings that Heyside had posted a good total. Professional Kemm was the stand out batsmen and as the wickets began to fall it was clear that he would have to occupy the crease if there was to be any chance of victory for the Moonrakers.  Kemm fought on despite seeing Walker, Jones and Tahir fall in quick succession. However on 54 he was finally out and as he departed Middleton’s hopes of victory were slight.

Middleton finished on 107 for 9 and suffered the second defeat in the T20 competition. Next weekend the T20 cup continues on Saturday as the 1st XI travel to Walsden, and on Sunday Middleton begin their wood cup campaign against Rochdale.
