The Second Eleven Charge Continues PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 01 July 2014
A 20-point weekend for the Second Eleven kept up the pressure on Royton and Crompton at the top of the table

On Saturday, the Seconds produced a comprehensive performance to secure a vital victory away to Radcliffe.

In a game reduced to 35 overs, Middleton batted first and set a total of 167. Rob Bennett top scoring with 59, but he was more than ably assisted by Rhys Tierney (35) and Matt Collins (34).

In reply, Radcliffe were never in the chase and Gareth Hughes and Mo Sohail tied the batsmen down and took regular wickets with Sohail being the main destroyer, taking 5 wickets for the cost of 14 runs.

Sunday brought Ashton to Towncroft and Middleton's strength in bowling shone through as they bowled their opponents out for 51, with Callum Schora the only batsmen to put up any resistance as he batted through the innings for 19. Gareth Hughes ripping through the middle order, taking 6 wickets for 17 runs.

In reply, the batsmen made short work of the total, knocking the runs off inside of 12 overs for the loss of one wicket. Mo Shahid was the only batsman out for 28. But Rhys Tierney (21 not out) and Pete Foden (3 not out) saw the team home.
