Middleton CC Poll
Who will be Middleton's top run scorer in the 2017 season

Seconds Edged in a Thriller PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 17 June 2014

The Second Eleven’s valiant efforts ended up in vain as Royton triumphed in their clash.

Middleton captain, Rob Bennett won the toss and elected to bat first, a decision that he regretted as his top order crumbled to 5 for 5 off 6 overs, Aaron Tezs being the main destroyer with figures of 4 wickets for 1 run.

But with the captain still there, he was joined by Matt Collins and together they compiled a cautious partnership of 71 in 28 overs before Bennett was adjudged leg before for 29.

Collins’ resistance was finally broken as he was bowled, via an inside edge onto his pad, for 36.

The batting side was finally all out for 110, a figure that looked a long way away after 6 overs.

In their reply, Royton regularly lost wickets as they struggled with the movement off the seam from Middleton’s experienced bowling attack. But in between the wickets falling, runs were scored.

The Royton batsmen did offer difficult chances, but the fielders failed to take them, and in the end this cost them as Royton knocked the runs off for the loss of 9 wickets with 4 overs left.
