Batting Collapse Spells Disaster for Middleton PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 12 August 2013

A lack of depth in the batting department was the downfall for Middleton on Saturday in their duel with Walsden.

From being 45 for 0, chasing 238, Middleton were bowled out for a paltry 86 as Steve Barker and Richard Sladdin ripped through the batting order.

After a good team effort in the fielding, the Moonrakers restricted Walsden to a par score of 237. It was only a defiant innings from Nick Barker (63 not out) that brought about an air of respectability to the innings. But if it was not for two dropped catches, Walsden would have been restricted even further.

Scott Stanworth and George Walker were looking settled before Steve Barker claimed both wickets.

The dangerous Grant Edmeades was caught behind off Jake Hooson for 1 and Reece Jones was ran out by Joe Gale for 3.

Captain, Steve Davey, was the next to perish as he left a Sladdin delivery that hit middle stump.

Paul Bennett and Matt Foden soon followed, both scoring one.

Only Mo Shahid showed resistance in the middle order, as he reached 20 before being the eighth man out, bowled by Barker with the score on 82.

And it was soon over after that Gareth Hughes and Ben Lee both made their way back to the pavilion as Middleton were bowled out for 86.
