Oldham v Middleton PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 09 September 2012

ROD HIGHTON and STEVE BOTT at The Pollards

MATT Foden collected his second four-wicket haul in successive days and professional Michael Smith smashed 67 more runs as Middleton laid strong claims to a place in next season's Premier League.

They claimed a massive 165-run victory over bottom of the table Oldham in a one-sided affair.

George Walker and Grant Jones (pictured) came into the side for Matt and Ben Lee as Middleton looked to firm up that bid for a top eight finish.

The visitors were 81 for two after 19 overs but had been off for rain three times since the start.

They managed to progress to 128 for two after another nine overs and went on to amass a very respectable total of 253 all out.

Once again Middleton's excellent value for money South African pro Smith was the top scorer with 67 runs and Walker was just two short of his half century with 48.

After tea they ripped into Oldham and had them staggering at four for four with another five points looking almost certain. It looked like nothing short of a miracle would save Oldham but they did stage something of a recovery and progressed to 53 for six.

But they lost their last four wickets with the addition of just 35 more runs and Middleton were victorious with Foden returning bowling figures of four for 10 and Zaffer Zaman claiming three for 15.
