Crompton v Middleton Saturday June 23 2012

Stanworth Sees Middleton Home

MIDDLETON picked up another four points at Glebe Street on Saturday, writes Rod Highton.

Credit must be given to Crompton for getting the game on after the horrendous weather the previous day. The game was due to start on time but once again rain held up play until 2.45 and play was reduced to 37 overs.

Credit must be given to Crompton for getting the game on after the horrendous weather the previous day. The game was due to start on time but once again rain held up play until 2.45 and play was reduced to 37 overs.

Crompton skipper Carl Taylor won the toss and elected to bat with the two Dannys Taylor and Cashin opening the batting.

Middleton struck early in the sixth over with just six on the board. Zaf Zaman had Cashin (2) caught  by Grant Jones.

Crompton’s overseas amateur West Indian Dennis Louis joined Taylor and they took the score to 35 in the 17th over when Dale Highton bowled Taylor for 16.

With 20 overs left Crompton were struggling but Crompton’s professional Simon Wright and Louis then put together a superb stand of 101 off just 101 balls.

Wright was the main aggressor hitting Tom Hardman for three sixes in one over before he was caught by Reece Jones of George Walker for 66 off 64 balls with 4 x 4s and 3 x 6s included in his total.

Louis and Dave Roberts took Crompton to a final total of 163-3 with Roberts not out on seven and Louis unbeaten on a fine 64 off 80 balls with 3 x 4s and 1 x6. A challenging total for Middleton.

The Moonrakers needed to get off to a good start and once again they did.  Scott Stanworth and skipper Ste Davey put together a fine stand of 95 in a shade over 20 overs.

If Stanworth was the aggressor last week this week it was Davey who took the game to Crompton with his best knock of the season, falling just short of his half century when he looped a ball from Cashin in to the hands of Darren Lee for 47.

Professional Michael Smith joined Stanworth and they made sure Middleton were up with the run rate. A partnership of 30 was put together before Smith fell to Cashin caught by Majid Khan for 17 that included two towering sixes.

Grant Jones and Stanworth saw Middleton home with just over three overs to spare. Jones finished on 18 not out and once again Stanworth saw the game through with a splendid unbeaten knock of 69 to see his team home.
