THERE'S a great home double header this coming weekend with Walsden providing the opposition in the League on Saturday and Unsworth coming to Towncroft in the Wood Cup on Sunday, writes STEVE BOTT

Skipper Steve Davey is hoping his side can bounce back from the derby 20/20 defeat by Heywood and wrack up two important wins.

The loss to Heywood was a big blow as it came in one of the two trophies Middleton are currently defending this season.

But Davey says: "We won the first game against Rochdale so if we can beat Norden we still have a chance of progressing further."

But its the league that really matters and Middleton need a victory against Walsden if they are to keep tabs on the teams at the top of the CLL table.

Then they aim to continue their defence of the Wood Cup, which they won for the first time in ten years last season, against Unsworth after disposing of Werneth in the first round last month.

Davey sees the league game against Walsden as perhaps the more important of two very big fixtures. "It's a must win game for us," he said. "They are a little bit above us in the league but if we beat the weather we are at home so we have got to fancy our chances."

The Wood Cup clash against Unsworth the following day throws up the question of pressure again as Middleton are the current holders. But Davey says: "Just because we won it last season I don't think that puts any extra pressure on us.

"We are a good side and I am sure we will put in a performance against Unsworth."

Davey expects to field the same XI for both games (wickets pitched 1.30pm) and his team is: S Davey, S Stanworth (wkt), G Jones, R Jones, D Highton, D Core, Z Zaman, T Hardman, G Walker, R Fitton, M Smith (professional).

The second team continue their title defence at Walsden on Saturday and take on Crompton in the Burton Cup on Sunday. Both games are of course away.
