Heywood Cruise To Victory

Heywood won convincingly today at The Crimble.

Heywood Captain Bobby Cross won the toss and put Middlton in to bat. Skipper Ste Davey and Middleton Professional Michael Smith opened the batting but with score on 13 in the 2nd over Smith was bowled by Hunza Naeem for 12.Grant Jones joined Davey and Middleton had reached 29 in the fifth over when Davey (6)  was caught by Curtis Maguire off the bowling of Australian overseas amateur Hamish Paterson. George Walker and Jones put on 22 and then Heywoods’ South African Professional Travis Townsend bowled Walker (14). Jones was the next to go when he danced past a ball from Joe Lovell and was easily stumped by Danny Pawson for 24. 63/4 soon became 67/7 when a couple of suicidal runs out claimed the wickets of Scott Stanworth (6) and Matt Lee (1) and Reece Jones was ct by Heywood skipper Bobby Cross off the bowling of Lee Grogan without troubling the scorers. Cameron Smith and Danny Core tried to drag Middleton back in the game with a stand of 26 but the damage was done and another poor run out claimed the wicket of Smith for 12. Middleton finished with 98/9 off their 20 overs with Richard Fitton (3) well caught by Naeem running in off the boundary with Core finishing unbeaten on 15.

Middleton needed early wickets but Heywood raced to 25 in the 4th over before Core had Townsend caught by Lee for 10. The 2nd wicket fell at 36 when Core picked up his second wicket when he had Pawson (2)caught behind by Stanworth but that was to be the last wicket as Andy Dawson and Bobby Cross put on a 50 partnership when the umpires decided to call it a day due to the heavy persistent rain that had been falling since the start of Heywoods innings and Heywood won on the better run rate. Cross finished unbeaten on 17 but the main man was Dawson who finished on 50 off just 29 balls with 9 x 4s and saw his team home with to a comfortable victory.  Danny Core being the pick of the Middleton bowlers with 4 0 17 2.
