Stanworth Sees Middleton Home

Scott Stanworth saw Middleton home against Littleborough on Saturday at Towncroft as they threatened to spoil the game.

Littleborough won the toss and elected to bat and were soon one down as John Henderson the former Lancashire man was adjudged LBW by former Test Umpire John Holder for 3 off the bowling of Zaffer Zaman with the score on 7.  Littleborough's Australian Professional Clinton Perren joined Mark Whiteley and together they went about repairing the damage with a stand of 62 which came in 22 overs before Whiteley (31) was bowled by Danny Core. Littleborough's overseas amateur Worrin Williams joined his Professional and together they upped the run rate with some good running and turning the strike round. The score had reached 108 when Williams (14) was caught and bowled by Dale Highton.  Perren then started to play his shots and along with Tom Pye they took the score up to 144 when Highton had Pye stumped by Scott Stanworth for 9. Then Tom Hardman took the scalp of Perren when he enticed him in to a nick and Stanworth took the catch. The Australian had scored 88 off 117 balls with 6 x 4s in a valuable knock for his team and Littleborough were 152/5. Eighteen more runs were added before Highton picked up his 3rd wicket when he had Matt Micklethwaite caught by George Walker for 14.  There was one more wicket to fall and it was Callum Rushton (5) who went when Middleton Professional Michael Smith took the catch off the bowling of Hardman. Joe Barnes and Littleborough veteran Phil Deakin took the score to 200 with sensible batting and cleaning hitting as they finished with seven wickets down. Barnes finished on 11no and Deakin 17no.

Middleton with a new opening partnership of Stanworth and 18year old Matt Lee opened the batting but with the score on 22 Lee was stumped by Jamie Roche off the bowling of Rushton for 2.  Then came the rain that had been threatening and the players left the field for just over an hour before returning and Middleton had been set a revised target of 174 off 41 overs.
Stanworth and Smith put together a partnership of 64 off 56 balls before Smith (24) unluckily played on to Williams. Stanworth and Grant Jones took Middleton up to 114 before Jones was LBW to Deakin for 7.  A partnership of 34 between Stanworth and Hardman almost got Middleton home but Deakin picked up his 2nd wicket when he had Hardman caught by Rushton for 15. Perren then got in to the act when he had Walker LBW for 7 with the score on 164 and an unusual fact of every bowler on the day had picked up a wicket.  Middleton Captain helped Stanworth to see Middleton over the line with 4 overs to spare. Davey ending on 6no and Stanworth a magnificent 74 no off 114 balls with 5 x 4s to give Middleton 4 points and continue their unbeaten run.

Tuesday sees the Moonrakers play Heywood at the Crimble in the John Willie Lees 20-20 competition with a start time of 4 oclock and on Friday they travel to Woodhouse Lane to play Norden in the last game of a Round Robin.
Saturday sees the 1st team traveling  down the motorway to play Clifton with the seconds at Towncroft both games start at 1.30.
Sunday sees Towncroft host the Inter League game between the CLL and the Bolton League with a start time of 1.30
