Middleton To Good For Unsworth

Middleton ran out comfortable winners at Towncroft on Saturday winning with just under 14 overs to go.

Unsworth Captain John Wiggans won the toss and elected to bat and he and Overseas Amateur Hussain Badat opened the batting. Middleton struck the first blow with the score on 7 when Tom Hardman making his home debut for the Moonrakers had Badat (1) superbly caught at second slip by Middleton Professional Michael Smith and 5 runs later he struck again  when he bowled Wiggans for 5.Twelve for Two became 22/3 when Hardman picked up his 3rd wicket as he also bowled Andrew Clarkson (0). Rammy Navaratnam and Unsworth Professional Jonathon Fowler attempted to repair the damage with a stand of 48 before Navaratnham was LBW to Dale HIghton for 24.Tom Earnshaw joined his Pro and they had compiled a stand of 49 when Highton had Earnshaw ( 18 )caught by Smith to leave Unsworth on 119/5. Middleton took the last 5 wickets for 38 runs as Danny Core picked up Nav Khawaja (1) well caught by Reece Jones and Fowler comfortably caught by Matt Lee for a well played 62 off 75 balls with 7 fours. Dale Highton also picked up Two more wickets Jack Obrien (0) caught by Core and Liam Richards caught by Grant Jones for 14.The returning Hardman also picked up his 4th wicket when he bowled Mark Hague for 13 leaving Simon Hetherington 1no.

Middleton opening with the usual pair of Scott Stanworth and Ste Davey found themselves 1 wicket down with the score on 5 when Davey was well caught by Fowler at slip for 0.Michael Smith joined Stanworth and together they put on an excellent stand of 95 in 18 overs with Smith in particular playing some exquisite shots all round the ground whilst Stanworth played the anchor role. Smith was to fall bowled by Richards for a superb 59 off 60 balls with 11 x4s. Three runs later Middleton lost there 3rd wicket when Grant Jones(0) was caught by Khawaja off Clarkson. Stanworth and Hardman took the score to 147 before Stanworth was bowled by Khawaja for a valuable knock of 53 and it was left to Hardman 36no with 5 x4s and 1 six and George Walker 0no to see Middleton home.

Middleton C.C. currently have three senior teams competing in the Penine Cricket League, and five junior teams.

Senior matches take place on the majority of Saturday and Sundays.

The Junior sides play on various nights throughout the week, as well as the Under 13s playing on Sunday mornings.

50/50 Club
The Club hold a weekly draw. The cost is £5 per month, and the weekly prize is £50. Anybody interested should contact Peter Collinson.
