Middleton Get First Win As Hardman Stars

Middleton skipper Ste Davey won the toss and elected to bat on at bitterly cold day at Welbeck Road. Davey opened the innings with Scott Stanworth and got Middleton off to a great start with a stand of 61 before Stanworth was well caught by Ali Nawaz off Dominic Gavin for 31.Six runs were added before Middletons Professional Michael Smith was bowled by fellow Professional Paul Green for 2.George Walker and Davey put on 23 before Green had Davey LBW for 36 and only 8 more runs were added before Green picked up his 3rd wicket when he held on to drive from Grant Jones ( 10 ). Tom Hardman on debut for Middleton joined Walker and together they put on 44 in 8 overs before Walker ( 12 ) was bowled by the returning Gavin. Reece Jones and Hardman then hit a quick fire 34 before Jones was caught by Ben Chapman off Danny Collins for 17. Danny Core hit his first ball for six as he and Hardman took the score to 195 before Green picked up his 4th wicket when he bowled Core for 8 and Middleton finished with 206/7 with Mark Buckley 1no and Hardman a superb 65 no off off just 62 balls with 8 x 4s and 2 x 6s to prove he is going to be real asset to Middleton this season. Green was the pick of the bowlers with 4 for 36 off 14 overs.


Monton got off to a steady start with openers Chapman and Green putting on 34 before Zaf Zaman had Chapman caught behind by Stanworth for 22.34/1 soon became 36/3 when Dale Highton got 2 wickets in 2 balls when he had Montons Australian overseas amateur Cameron Murray well caught by Smith  and next ball Jake Sandham was adjudged LBW. Josh Lenihan joined his Professional and together they compiled a stand of 39 before Green ( 21 ) was caught at point by Core off Zaman. Three runs later Zaman picked up his 3rd wicket when he bowled Lenihan for 27 and just 1 run later Monton lost there 6th wicket when Collins was LBW to Highton without scoring. The score had reached 91 when Zaman got his fourth wicket when he had Nawaz LBW. Danny Core picked up the last 3 wickets when he bowled Tom Kershaw ( 16) caught and bowled Paul Hammersly ( 4 ) and finished it off by having Gavin LBW for nought leaving dave Garner 26no as Monton were bowled out for 138 to give Middleton there first 5 pointer of the season in a decent all round performance.

Middleton C.C. currently have three senior teams competing in the Penine Cricket League, and five junior teams.

Senior matches take place on the majority of Saturday and Sundays.

The Junior sides play on various nights throughout the week, as well as the Under 13s playing on Sunday mornings.
