Scott Stanworth and George Walker opened the batting and found conditions difficult in the face of some good bowling by Milnrow Deputy Professional, Billah Asid, and overseas amatuer, Nathan Tremlett. Stanworth was the first to go when he was caught behind by Denny Hulme off Asid and 4 balls later skipper Steve Davey followed him for two, well caught at 2nd slip by Max Power. Deputy Professional Anil Rideegammanagedera joined Walker and they took the score to 38 when Ridee was out, LBW to Tremlett. The next over was to prove a disaster for Middleton when Asid had Walker caught behind by Hulme for a patient 14 off 56 balls. Jimmy Ryan went first ball again caught by Hulme to leave Asid on a hat trick. Danny Core saw it out only to be LBW to Asid just 2 balls later and Middleton had collapsed to 40 for 6. Stuart Fitton joined Grant Jones and he played positively while Jones played the anchor role in a stand of 39. Royle lasted 8 balls only to play onto Asid and Dale Highton went first ball, LBW, to once again leave Asid on a hat trick. Rick Valentine was the man this time to deny it but in Asid's next over Valentine lobbed to Tremlett for the fifth duck in the innings and Middleton were all out for 91 with Asid bowling magnificently for figures of 9 for 32. But rain fell during the tea interval and gradually got heavier as time passed. So in the end the captains has no choice but to abandon the match and settle for two points a piece. Rod Highton
Match Abandoned. 2 points each -The Second Eleven were rained off against their Milnrow counterparts. Batting first the men from Ladyhouse Lane were bowled out for 153. But play never restarted after tea as the rain that had fallen consistently throughout the first innings never subsided and puddles were appearing on the pitch and the captains eventually shook hands on the draw. Match Abandoned. 2 points each

On a grey day and a damp wicket down one side due to water getting under the covers Milnrow captain, Nigel Doyle, had no hesitation in bowling first.
